A Travellerspoint blog

View from my window

I haven't had much energy to blog the last day. Being jet lagged and starting work had me a bit run down. I started in the Stuttgart office yesterday and it was a great experience. Jenny got me bright and early from the hotel and we drove in together. After meeting a number of people and chatting with the boss man, I was finally introduced to one of the three bosses I will have over the next 3 months.

The people I work with in this department are really nice so far. We all seem to get along and they smile a lot. Well, if I am trying to say something they frown while watching my mouth. This concentration is usually wasted as most times they can't understand what point I am trying to make. This goes both ways as most times, I have no idea what they are telling me in english! No, but seriously, it is not that bad and we are all communicating and getting the work done which is the most important thing of all.

At lunch yesterday I finally got to sit down with some of the people I had befriended over the last few months via email. It was like talking to old friends which was so relieving as sometimes meeting new people can be very nerve racking. Over our meals, we all had a good chat about some of the differences in Canadian and German customs. The main difference that I can see if that Germans are extremely liberal in their view...on certain things.

After the meal we all went outside to enjoy the beautiful hot sun. Since I am told it was snowing in Toronto, I took a few more minutes in the sun for my family and friends still wrestling with the slush in Ontario. :) Once again, we had a nice chat and relaxed. I was invited to another soccer game, very important once again, in May. For sure I will be there with bells on.

Walking home from work has so far been a real joy. The sun is still nice and warm at 5 and the air is fresh and crisp. Taking my time, I get back to the hotel in about 20 minutes. Slow walking that is. Last night was blurry due to share and utter exhaustion. After going to a 1 Euro store, buying a swarma for dinner and looking around more, I headed in. Although exhausted, I needed to be out and about for a while. Plus, I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep right away anyhow. After dinner, I did a few things and watched a few more episodes of medium on my computer. I was so tired that at 10 that I promptly took off the dvd and slipped into blissful sleep. Only to wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed 3 hours later. Oh jet lag. How I love you. I did manage to get a sum total of 5 hours sleep last night though. Hopefully I will get more tonight.

Right now I am going to get my bag and head out for a walk around my neighborhood. I will take the scenic route and take pictures also. Hopefully I will have some new shots for you tomorrow.

So, until next time, as they say in German, Guten Abend. Oh, the language is actually growing on me now. I can say a few things and contort my tongue this way and that to sound just like a natural born Swabian!!

Here are a few lovely pictures of the view from the tiny balcony in my room.
